The Dodgers put on a show for their fans last night as they faced their archenemy rivals from the North, the San Francisco Giants. It was a standout game for Dodgers’ star rookie, Corey Seager, who went 3-for-4 and scored 3 of the 9 runs for the team. The star shortstop wasn’t the only one to put up numbers, though; Adrian Gonzalez went 2-for4 and racked up 3 RBIs. It was a solid all-around performance on the offensive end for the team as they tallied a total of 14 hits, 9 coming against the Giants’ star pitcher and one of the best in the game, Madison Bumgarner. Bumgarner gave up 5 earned runs to go with the 9 hits. The Dodgers ended up winning the game with a score of 9-to-5.
After beating the Giants last night, the Dodgers now have a two game lead over their rivals in the race for the NL West crown. The Dodgers had trailed the Giants in the division for most of the season, but a Dodgers’ hot streak and some Giants’ mishaps have the tables turned with about a month left of the MLB season.
The Dodgers (70-55) and the Giants (68-57) have separated themselves from the rest of their division. The third place team in the NL West, the Colorado Rockies, are 10.5 games behind first-place with a record of 60-66.
It’s now a two-team race to the NL West finish line, led by the Dodgers, but the Giants right on their heels. They play each other again tonight and tomorrow in Los Angeles to finish off their 3-game series. The remaining games between the two rivals from California will without a doubt be important battles in the war for the division title as the MLB season is quickly coming to an end.
