The best team in the MLB visited Los Angeles over the weekend to take on the Dodgers in a 3-game series. It seems the Chicago Cubs have been a step ahead of everyone else this entire season. Their MLB best 82-47 record is 6 games better than the next. The Los Angeles Dodgers have been no slouch themselves, though. Despite numerous injuries throughout their entire line-up, the Dodgers have managed to pull off a 73-58 record, tied for 6th best in the entire major league. Their weekend series with the Cubbies of Chicago was a duel between two of the top three teams in the National League.
The Dodgers, who rely heavily on their young talent, certainly gained a boost of confidence as they won two out of the three games against the Cubs. Although they only won the two games by one run each, there is no doubt they entered Monday feeling good. They enter the week having won back-to-back 3-game series against their rival Giants and the league best Chicago Cubs.
With a little over a month in the MLB season, it looks like the Boys in Blue are starting to play their best baseball of the year. This is huge for them, especially since they’ve been winning ball games without arguably the best pitcher in the game today, Clayton Kershaw. Kershaw, who hasn’t played in a game since June 26th, will face hitters in a simulated game this week. It will be the first time he pitches to hitters since he injured his back on that date in June. The Dodgers will go through the simulated game with Kershaw and try to set a timetable for his return.
Getting Kershaw back in the last month of the season would be huge for the Dodgers. They are hoping to get him playing before the playoffs start so he could get back into the groove of things without the pressure of the postseason looming over him. With a healthy Kershaw and their bats heating up, the Dodgers would certainly be poised to make a deep run into the playoffs.
