If you have been to Rio Hondo before this semester, then you know that the new campus bookstore is a huge improvement over the old one. The big glass windows of the store and the bright lights inside give off a different vibe compared to the dim-lighted old one. The new campus store leaves the previous one empty. So what’s going to happen with the old bookstore?

The new bookstore is located in the administration building. The old being in the science building. If you approach the old campus store, you’ll see a sign on the doors reading “Bookstore is new location across the way (behind you) in the ADMINISTRATION building.”

There was a lot of space in the old bookstore location, so there is quite a few ways it can go. The school can use the room for storage or as another classroom, or whatever they prefer.  As of right now, however, there are not any plans for the old store location.

A worker in the new bookstore, who also worked in the old location, said, “I don’t think there’s been any plans made for [the old bookstore]. They haven’t decided what to do with it.” The worker declined to give his name.

The old campus store is not a concern for Rio Hondo students anymore. There are students who aren’t worried about the old bookstore location at all.

“I love the lighting in the new one, everything is so bright,” said second year Rio Hondo student Amy Gonzales, “the lights in the old one made the room look orangey.”

So in the end there will not be many students who miss the old bookstore, but that doesn’t mean the location will disappear. With all the space in the old bookstore location, Rio Hondo students can expect something there soon.
