Fans of combat sports have been buzzing about a potential Conor McGregor-Floyd Mayweather super-fight since rumors sprouted last summer. At first, the thought of the UFC’s McGregor fighting boxing’s cash cow Mayweather seemed far-fetched. Now, it seems like it’s only a matter of time until the fight is announced.

Boxing-Hype.com reported this past weekend that Showtime could be announcing the fight in the upcoming week, making it official.

Fans were a bit skeptical of the report until UFC president Dana White joined The Herd Wednesday morning to promote the upcoming UFC 210 event. He took a minute to speak about the potential super-fight between “Money” Mayweather and “The Notorious” McGregor. What he had to say has only heated up the rumors.

“This type of a fight, that people are so interested in worldwide, I almost feel like I have to make it,” said White when asked if this matchup would be good for his business.

Mayweather, who hasn’t fought since 2015, has also come out and said this fight would be best for his Mayweather Promotions company.

Lots of people in the business of boxing and mixed martial arts have come out and said they can’t see this fight being competitive, as McGregor has no professional boxing experience. This has led some to believe both McGregor and Mayweather might only be looking for a huge payday.

Anybody familiar with McGregor’s career, however, will tell you he is not the guy to underestimate. McGregor has gone from the UFC’s newcomer to its first two-weight champion in about two and a half years.

With the money and fans’ interest there, both Mayweather’s and McGregor’s camps have come out and said this is the fight to make and it looks like they are working on it.

The once thought to be fantasy match could very well come to fruition soon.
