The Trump administration announced the end of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (better known as DACA) Tuesday morning. DACA protected around 800,000 “dreamers” from being deported.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions was the man that announced the final decision Tuesday. Stating that “the program known as DACA, that was effectuated under the Obama Administration, is being rescinded.”

DACA was an executive order implemented in 2012, and allowed immigrants who came to the U.S. as children to remain here. The program allowed those young “dreamers” to go to school in the U.S. and made them eligible to get a work permit once they are of age. The act even allowed them to participate in the social security program.

All of the benefits immigrants were given under DACA is now gone with the program now, however. This has left many “dreamers” clueless, heartbroken, and worried about their future.

In his speech, Sessions let viewers know that the decision to end the program wasn’t done deter immigrants, but was rather done in the best interests of the country.

“This does not mean [dreamers] are bad people or that our nation disrespects or demeans them in anyway,” Sessions announced. “It means we are properly enforcing our laws as Congress has passed them. It is with these principles and duties in mind, and in light of imminent litigation, that we reviewed the Obama Administration’s DACA policy.”

It’ll be interesting to see what new immigration acts come from this; President Trump can completely ignore the dreamers now, or set up something new for them to follow. One thing is for sure, however: the Trump Administration is not looking to bring in new immigrants.

“We cannot admit everyone who wants to come here,” Sessions said towards the end of his speech.
