It’s quite the time to be a Los Angeles sports fan. The Dodgers are heading to the World Series and both Los Angeles football teams earned victories and held their opponents scoreless this past Sunday. The Chargers and Rams both came away with 20+ point victories in week seven of the NFL season.
The Rams blitzed the Arizona Cardinals in London. Los Angeles exploded for 20 points in the second quarter, leading to a 23-0 halftime lead for the Rams.
Los Angeles continued to hold the Cardinals scoreless in the second half with tenacious defense. The defense was flying around, even injuring Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer.
Jared Goff, Rams’ quarterback, had himself a good game. He completed 22 of his 37 passes for a total of 235 yards and one touchdown. He ran for a touchdown as well, leading the Rams to a 33-0 win.
The Rams victory improved their record to 5-2 on the season. They are now in first place in the NFC West, leading the Seahawks by a half-game.
Los Angeles’ other team, the Chargers, also came out with a win in week seven of the NFL. the faced the Denver Broncos at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.
The Chargers defense stood out in Sunday’s game. They put a stop to the Broncos’ running attack, only allowing a total of 69 yards on the ground.
The offense of the Chargers’ wasn’t too great, but a punt return touchdown by receiver Travis Benjamin pulled them away from Denver early on.
Chargers’ quarterback Philip Rivers didn’t garner many yards going up against the “No Fly Zone” secondary of the Broncos. He did, however, come away with a couple touchdown passes to go with his 183 yards.
The victory was the third straight for the Chargers after dropping their first four games of the season. They now have a 3-4 record and sit in third place of the AFC West.
The Rams have a bye in week of the NFL season. The Chargers head to New England to play the defending Super Bowl Champions, the Patriots.
It should be a fun, high-scoring game as the Chargers’ Philip Rivers duels with the Patriots’ Tom Brady.
The Chargers and Patriots game will be Sunday, Oct. 29 at 10 am on CBS.
